And if the cell reports low salt while your test kit says otherwise, the cell is usually dirty, not short on salt.
How to clean a saltwater pool cell
This is the step most guides skip, and it's the one that saves you $200–$700. Clean it when you see scale; leave it alone when you don't, because over-cleaning wears the coating off the plates.
- Power down. Turn off the pump and the salt system at the breaker. Do not skip this.
